Pop Culture

BW almost never watches TV. The TV is in the lower level, and we mostly stay in the upper level, so the only chance he gets to watch TV is if I let him open the gate and go downstairs with me when I'm doing laundry or something. I flip on PBS and let him watch a little of whatever is on, and that occupies him for long enough for me to move the laundry from the washer into the dryer.

Today he stood at the top of the stairs shouting, "Mommy boy down!" (meaning "I want you and me to go downstairs together!"). "Why do you want to go downstairs?" I asked him. "EMMO!" he shouted and grinned. He wanted to see Elmo on Sesame Street.

So, apparently it doesn't matter how little TV you let your kid watch - Elmo is still going to find his furry little way into your life.

Better Elmo than Barney, I say. ;)

The boys think barney is bad. If he comes on after sesame, they yell "no, no barney... barney's not allowed"

:-D

They're also not allowed to watch the flaming baby head show.
this is kerrie, btw
We talked about this with our baby-vet yesterday- how Tim knows all these characters from movies and TV that he's never seen, because he's read the Sesame Street books, or played with the Bob the Builder toys, or seen kids at day care with Buzz, Woody, and Nemo clothes. She talked about how marketing bombards children, and she told us not to assume that because he recognizes the characters and like them that he is ready to watch those movies.
Bob Bob Bob Bob!
Dora! Dora! Dora! Dora!
buzz to the lightyear!!!!!
THOMAS THOMAS THOMAS!!!!!!
Maybe "Mommy Boy Down" is his way of quoting his favorite movie...

There is a piper down! I repeat, there is a piper down!
Actually, we think that's true. The other day, he was playing a volleyball-esque game with Daddy, and he bonked into Daddy pretty hard and Daddy went down. BW ran around screaming "Daddy down! Daddy DOWN!".

Now if I can only get him to say "HEEED! Paper! Nooow!".
MAY!! TURN OFF THE BAY CITY ROLLERS!
I'm trying to get emma_ming to say, "For he *is* the Kwisatz Haderach!"
WC has a little girl in her class named Alia.

I like to call her The Abomination.

Aren't we awful!?!
not that i'm a big fan of Elmo, but i'd rather have my kid wanting a Muppet than that devil-spawn Barney any day!!
